Today weโre going to talk about the dangers and benefits of erythritol.ย
What is erythritol?
Erythritol is a sugar alcohol. Itโs an alternative sweetener, and itโs 60-70% as sweet as sugar. It has less than 25% of 1 calorie per gram. Sugar has 4 calories per gram. Erythritol has .24 calories per gram. It has 95% less calories than sugar.ย
Erythritol gets absorbed in the small intestine, it gets in the blood, but it gets excreted by the kidney unchanged. The microbes donโt like to eat it. There arenโt many negative side effects of erythritol. It has zero impact on insulinโit doesnโt affect the blood sugars.ย
*As long as itโs non-GMO, I think erythritol is a great alternative sweetener.ย
The dangers of erythritol in high doses (greater than 50 grams):ย
1. Gas
2. Bloatingย
3. Stomach noise
4. A laxative effectย
