Title: The phone system for those who miss their landline
Review: It has been about 12 years since I cut the cord and got rid of my landline. For the most part, strictly using my cell for my primary phone hasn’t been an issues. However, I do miss having a phone in most rooms of the house. When I come home from work, I plug my phone in on my dresser and that is where it stays until I leave the house the following day. So, I always have to keep an ear open in case the phone rings and then go running upstairs to answer the phone. I miss the days where I could simply pick a phone up in any room of the house. Well, the AT&T DECT 6.0 phone system will give you back some of that convenience of a landline.The AT&T DECT 6.0 is actually a landline phone system that integrates Bluetooth connectivity to two different cell phones. Along with the 5 cordless phones and charging stands, this will give you back the convenience of a landline phone in every room. While it is a landline phone, it doesn’t need to be plugged in to a landline to function. It works just fine with cell phones.Setup is super simple with a voice assistant that walks you through the setup process when you plug the phone in for the first time. I was really impress how well this worked. Within 5 minutes, I had two cell phones connected to the system and had downloaded the contact lists from both phones to the directory of the AT&T DECK 6.0 system. I honestly never had to look at the included manual to set anything up or learn how to use the features. The voice assistant and the on screen menu was so easy and so complete, it made the setup incredibly simple.Operationally, this is a landline phone that Bluetooth cell phone features. I really wish it was Bluetooth cell phone device that had landline features. This statement may sound strange, but is easily understood when using this device. It has a lot of great features, but I wished that they integrated with the cell phone better. For instance, the AT&T has its own answering machine functions, but doesn’t integrate with your cell phone’s. Its own answering machine functions are great. You can set the phone to send any call that isn’t in your directory/contacts directly to the answering machine while allowing callers in your directory/contacts to ring through. Callers that are sent to the answering machine can give their name and the phone will announce their name giving you the opportunity to answer the phone if you wish. This is a great feature, but there is not integration between your phone’s voicemail and the answering machine on the phone. A huge thing missing from this phone is the ability to screen texts from your cell. While it would be impractical to try and text from the handsets, the ability to screen texts would be nice to see if it is worth going to your phone to reply would be great.I also wanted to comment on the build quality. This system is very similar to one that I use at work. The handsets are almost identical. I have to tell you that the unit I use at work does take abuse and still works great. The handsets at work have been dropped on concrete and tile floors and continue to work with no problems. This is a solidly built phone system that will last a good long time. The only issue that I have experienced is that occasionally, one of the two cell phones will not connect with the Bluetooth. The AT&T DECT 6.0 has to be power cycled to get the Bluetooth to connect. This doesn’t happen often. But it isn’t unexpected either as Bluetooth devices can be quarky at times.Overall, I really like this phone system. It has given me landline convenience in my house using my cell phones. And it does this very well. The thing that brings this system in at a 4 sitar rating instead of a 5 star rating is that it leaves you wanting more.
