Title: Practical book to explicitly teach core vocabulary; not another dense theory book
Review: I plan on implementing the guide suggested by the book this summer with AAC using child. He uses Snap + Core First. I think this is book provides a well thought out guideline on how to teach very abstract concepts for common words that are necessary for a child with disabilities to function and communicate effectively. I am impressed with the connection to literacy and suggestion of TarHeel books for different core words. I am thankful to the author, Jennifer Jacobs for creating this book that helps provides a practical application of educational principles in a way that is meaningful to the student. So many times well meaning educators are tied to a particular curriculum or ideology that they lose sight of the learner in front of them. But this book makes every effort to connect and engage with the student.
