Title: Works good, wish I had got them sooner.
Review: As many of the other reviews noted, these are easy to set up once you are aware of a few things which are noted below. I purchased both the small round indoor outlets and the larger outdoor outlets, so these hints apply to both items. The steps outlined in the instructions are actually pretty good but awareness of these hints will make it go much faster for you. 1- I configured my devices one at a time at the same outlet using the Smart Life app on my phone via the BLE mode. The first device is the most time consuming as you need to create a Smart Life account, identify your WIFI and put in your WIFI password. Once that is done, you don’t need to do it again for subsequent devices, so it goes pretty fast after that. 2- As noted in the instructions, just plugging the device into an outlet will put the device into its pairing mode and it will appear in the app as “Smart plug x” where x = the number of devices added to the app. I did have one device that didn’t appear after plugging it in, so pressing and holding the button on the device for 5 seconds put it into the pairing mode and it connected successfully. 3- As each device is detected, you should edit the name of the device from “Smart plug x” to a meaningful description e.g “Smart plug kitchen”. I also wrote the description on the device with a sharpie as several of the devices will be used with Christmas lights and will be stored away in the off season. 4- I just wanted mine to power on and off as specific times. To do this, tap on “timer” for the device in the app and then tap on “add schedule”. The thing to remember is that each schedule added only does one function (on or off), so if you want it to power on at a specific time, that’s one schedule and if you want it to power off at a specific time, that’s another schedule. The schedules just pile up in the order that you add them for the device and execute based on the time and the function (on or off) that you choose. Note that the indoor and outdoor devices behave a little differently from each other in the app because the outdoor devices have 2 individually configurable outlets, so it is a little more complicated but pretty obvious. You can also manually power the devices on and off via the app even with schedules in place.

Title: Works very well with one design flaw.
Review: This Wifi-based smart device is perhaps the best available outdoor smart plug on the market. It splits to two independently controlled smart switches and seems to reliably stay connected to the home network. It uses the Kasa app which many of my other Wifi smart devices use, which is a plus for me. One small caveat is that they designed the right-angle plug so that the cord is oriented straight down instead of at a 45 degree angle, so when you plug it into a two socket outlet, you have to plug it into the bottom socket, otherwise, it will block both. This is not uncommon for right-angle plugs, but it is always disappointing when it is overlooked. I still like it a lot and I bought two more for the holiday season because it’s a great way to control and automate scheduling of Christmas lights.

Title: Install requires 3rd party app + account creation
Review: We got this outdoor smart plug to make it easier to control outdoor Christmas lights. We plugged front lights into one outlet and back lights into the other. You could alternately control inflatables with one and lights with the other, etc. Really lots of options to work with as long as you stick to the 15 amp max current. The plug works fine after install, but it took more effort than initially expected to set it up.The smart plug came in a simple box with some pretty easy to follow instructions. You can set it up to be controlled directly as an IoT device, via a bluetooth connection, or connected to your wifi network and controllable via Amazon’s Alexa. You can also turn individual outlets on / off using the buttons on the plug itself. Given most people who have smart home devices have at least one Alexa device, it made the most sense to us to go with that option. Unfortunately, Eightree is not one of the recognized Alexa device manufacturers, so you can’t simply set this plug up in your Alexa app and call it a day. You have to install another “Smart Life” app from your App Store, create an account, and then connect it to your wifi network. Once you have it set up in the 3rd party app, you can then link it to your Alexa app so you can control the lights from it. You will lose some of the more advanced functions like timers, but I’d rather have integration over functionality, and I can just create a routine if I want to add a timer. We already had the Smart Life app, so setup didn’t take too much longer for us. However, it could be a burden for people who don’t already have the app or a Smart Life account. We also wish the plug would rotate to better fit the outlet we have it installed to. And it would be nicer if it worked with Apple HomeKit vs. just Alexa and Google. We’ve had this plug operating for a couple of days now with no issues with disconnection or failure. We’ll continue to use it throughout the holiday season and update this review if we have any issues.

Title: Perfect for holiday lights!
Review: This outdoor smart plug worked very well for my holiday light display this year. I appreciate that the outlets can be controlled separately, as it allowed me to have one on all of the time and set the other with a timed schedule. Installation couldn’t be easier.

Review: I’m using this smart plug to control a bunch of lighting in my backyard/garden. I garden quite late into the day, so I have the plug set to automatically turn on the lighting in the evening and then turn them off 2 hours later – I’ve got my main series of lights on one outlet and then I’ve got a few path lights set to turn off 20 minutes later than the main series so I have time to get back. It’s a bit of niche use case for me as I’m basically using this to keep track of time so that I don’t have to keep a clock or smartphone on me since I prefer to minimize the weight on me when I’m working.I appreciate that this can be used with the Tuya app since I’m already using Tuya to control other smart devices, so there’s no need to install yet another app. Installation is easy; I opted for the Bluetooth setup and was ready to go in minutes. The brand mentions all its products are ETL certified, but this product doesn’t actually feature the ETL mark on it. I doubt anything bad will happen, especially since the outlet I’ve got this plugged into is up to safety standards, but it’s disappointing nonetheless to see the discrepancy. The plug is rated as IP44 so it’s not actually fully waterproof despite its product listing suggesting otherwise. It’s been through some rain and continues to work, so at the very least it can survive getting wet, but I would not subject it to direct water flows (for example, by accident when watering plants) or let it get submerged for some reason. It also mentions being able to handle -20 °C to 40 °C weather, but while I won’t be using it that far into winter, I will be doing yardwork well into December so I’ll update on how it fares with early subzero weather at least. If it can handle cold weather as advertised then this will be great for any Canadian customers.Update (01/2025): It operated down to -11 °C without issue as I worked during December, but I did not get to test it in even lower temperatures as I had completed my yard work and shut off my lights for the rest of the winter season by the time it got even colder. At $25, the pricing is at the middle compared to other similar offerings available on Amazon. As of this review, there’s also a $20% off discount that makes this an even more compelling buy.
