Joint Pain and Swelling:
Uric acid crystals can accumulate in the joints, causing intense pain, redness, and swelling, most commonly in the big toe. This condition is known as gout.
Kidney Stones:
High uric acid can lead to the formation of kidney stones, which are hard deposits of minerals that can cause severe pain in the back, side, or lower abdomen, along with nausea and blood in the urine.
Tophi:
In chronic cases of high uric acid, tophi can form. These are lumps of uric acid crystals that develop under the skin, typically around the joints or in the ear.
Frequent Urination:
High uric acid levels can cause the kidneys to work harder, leading to an increased need to urinate. This may also be accompanied by a feeling of not being able to completely empty the bladder.
Fever and Chills:
During a gout attack, some people may experience fever and chills as the body reacts to the inflammation and pain in the affected joint.
