Title: Overpriced & A Bit Complicated
Review: This Portable Digital Magnifier has some good features and some down sides to it. The cons first. This video magnifier is a little on the complicated side for the elderly to navigate. Most people who would benefit from this technology would be elderly, but it’s too complicated. I have a grandfather with Macular Degeneration that needs a magnifying glass to see things. Even though it has big buttons and has a big bright light, it is hard to navigate, hard to get the item you’re looking at in frame and the handles just not all that easy to hold on to. In my opinion this should be something that the average 30-40 year old should be able to use, without any manual. If it is that easy to use, then an 80-90 year old should be able to figure it out and learn to use it. I had to look at the manual, I am a techy and still had to work at it to figure this thing out. Once you do get things working, it is easier to use, and the picture is very detailed. I am just afraid that my grandpa isn’t going to be able to use it, because it’s too complicated and he can’t see well enough to know what all the buttons do. I also think that it’s really expensive for what you are getting. My phone can do a lot of the same things, and it has guided access to make it a bit easier for people with vision issues. One other issue is that this has open ports with no protection, so if you are using it in the kitchen, bathroom or even a restaurant to read ingredients or directions, there is a big risk of getting it wet. If they can simplify it, make it waterproof and improve on the handle design, it would be great for the elderly.

Review: M vision is severely impaired, and it was recommended that I obtain a digital magnifier since their magnification is significantly greater than magnifying glasses.My review of available digital magnifiers indicated that this unit was the only one that had two attributes that I considered to be very desirable, and specifically:• The near screen position at approximately 45° from horizontal.o This angled screen allows you to sit normally at a table or desk with the documents flat on the surface in front of you, as opposed to a horizontal screen where you have to stand over or lean forward when sitting in order to view the screen properly.• The far lens’s capability, coupled with the magnification up to 32Xo This allows you to read even relatively small print at a large distance.o The unit is vey useful for reading overhead street signs add overhead aisle markers, etc. in stores.My first impression on opening the box was that the digital magnifier was attractive, rugged, and well-constructed.Unfortunately, the Digital magnifier was faulty, Battery would not fully charge, and Volume was so faint,even at maximum volume, it could not be understood.• After contacting seller, it was replaced at no cost.I would have rated the replacement Digit Magnifier 5-stars, but the replacement had only slightly louder volume, and was difficult to hear.One thing that I considered to be missing is a provision to attach a next strap so the unit could be suspended around your neck.
