Title: Communication Mats
Review: Smarty Mats are speech therapy placemats used at meal times as a form of aba therapy. These communication boards act as a visual aid for non verbal children as a way to communicate their needs. I use these to help teach my 9 year old son who has been diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Bright, colorful, large images. The mats will be long lasting, very well made. I would recommend them as a visual learning aid for children on the spectrum.

Title: Excelente para ninos que necesitan enfocar la atención VISUAL en la ALIMENTACION!
Review: UN SISTEMA DE ALTERNATIVO DE COMUNICACION DEBE SER SIMILAR A ESTE DOILE QUE NOS PRESENTA @Smartypants! :)EXCELENTE!!!!

Title: Excellent product
Review: This is an excellent tool for quality mealtimes. As a family of therapists (children’s mental health, and OT), my wife and I wholeheartedly recommend these for parents of children who have limited verbal skills (preverbal, non-verbal) to reduce frustrations that can often come with mealtime.Using clear pictures which also incorporate common sign language around meal times, children can communicate needs and wishes while parents can communicate clearly around needs, expectations, and routines. We also appreciate the progressive complexity of the series of mats which allows parents to meet their child at the appropriate developmental level.Additionally we appreciate the high quality of the mats which are easy to clean.

Title: A must for children who are non-verbal, children with autism to support communication!
Review: These are perfect for encouraging children who are non-verbal how to communicate (such as individuals with autism, toddlers, preschoolers! ) These are extremely high quality mats, are amply sized, and they are made from thick material, meaning they will be really durable, easy-clean…standing up to the toughest of spills. (These are the real deal!)Communication is essential, yet some children, young adults with autism, and even Seniors may have challenges with being able to communicate even the most basic concepts surrounding meal times. They may want to say more, but aren’t able to, because they just don’t have the words or the ability to say the words. These mats can help give those individuals with autism, etc. a visual tool so they can communicate what they want or need because they can literally just point to a picture that says what they want to say. This is HUGE! Having worked with children with autism for over 25, almost 30 years, I know that it is important to get them to be able to say what they are thinking, even when they don’t have the words. This placemat can help with that, and is an invaluable tool for those who struggle with communication because not only they can associate the basic routines and conversations for mealtimes, but they can even learn the sign language symbols to further extend their communication abilities by learning the sign language signs. The picture communication squares, are colorful, easy for little ones to understand, and uses frequently used sign language pictures that they can point to or even mimic, depending on their ability and understanding…helping give them both receptive and expressive language opportunities, since they are being modeled multiple ways to communicate their ideas. There are 6 mats total, 2 of each, in 3 different styles. The mat entitled“Time to eat” focuses on “Yes, No, Set the table, Sit at the table, Eat, Drink, I like, I don’t like, More, All done, Thank you, and Wash hands”. These are perfect for your typical mealtime communication needs. Another mat shows all the items you might need to “set the table” and breaks down steps really easily for those who might need support with actual ordering of mealtime routines, using a visual schedule format, and is laid out in a very logical order to support mealtime routines. The third mat has a lot of language pictures on it, and is perfect for using with little ones who have either mastered the previous mats or for little ones that need to work on extending their language with a lot of really helpful communication pictures. This one has “Sit at table, Set the table, Hungry, Eat, Thirsty, Drink, I want, Help me, Please, Thank you, I need a break, Wait, Yes, No, I like, I don’t like, More, All Done, Clean up, Wash hands”.I highly recommend these if you have someone you are working with, that requires support with receptive and expressive language and communication. These mats will give you, (and them!), the basic tools to communicate wants and needs for mealtimes in a fun and practical way. I am so happy I got these! They are an excellent tool for teachers, families, and therapists to extend communication skills. You will love them too!!!
