Title: Michael Lewis is once again at the right place and the right time to tell (edit) a powerful story
Review: I saw this mentioned in an interview with Michael Lewis and read it on the first weekend. First, the idea is solid and the timing is impeccable given what is going on in the world. It is a collection of 8 short stories, two of them by Michael Lewis, which are particularly good as he is the most gifted story teller of the bunch, although ‘The Sentinel’ was also really excellent. I think ‘The Number’ just didn’t fit with the theme, and ‘The Equalizer’ felt more focused on the author than on the Government employees the book intended to celebrate. But what this book highlights is that within the US Government are at least some people who are doing amazing work that is critical to our democracy and to our civilization. Sometimes they do this in spite of their organizations, but that we all benefit from these folks having a place to chase their passions. I don’t think think that this argues that everything is fine, but I think it makes a compelling argument about how we need nurture, celebrate and manage these organizations that are critical to the function of our country.

Review: Im a micheal lewis fan, and the subjects and thesis statement is worth a readBut , theres a glaring black hole in Lewis examination of the The Government, that we’ve had systemic problems for over a decade, and a steady decline since 2008. I think the fact that hes a Baby Boomer makes him a little blind sided to reality (Pun Intended) Where was the government on fixing housing, min wage, healthcare, unemployment, job creation. When during an interview he was applauded for his work, and his natural reaction was to recoil; i think thats his guy saying, oh im missing something . Roads are a glaring example of how the government dont care about the public, or inflation. Theres far more immediate crisis that … quite frankly if Lewis thesis is theyre crisis prevention, 350M cars with pothole damage, doesnt really provide proof for that theory
